Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand) [India], September 13 (ANI): Amid heavy rainfall in the Pithoragarh district, officials on Friday warned of rising water levels in the Kali River and urged the public to avoid travelling near the riverbanks.
“Due to continuous rainfall in Pithoragarh district, today, on 13.09.2024, the water level of Kali river has reached a warning level, due to which there is a strong possibility of danger in the areas along the river, for which it is very important to maintain caution, safety and vigilance,” the statement by Pithoragarh police read.

The police also appealed to the people to not travel along the banks of the Kali/Gori river, not to let children go near them, not to allow travel along the bridges due to the increased water levels.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assessed the impact of the heavy downpours across the state during a visit to the State Disaster Operation Centre in Dehradun’s IT Park.
According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office, “Chief Minister Dhami enquired about the condition of rain, roads, drinking water, electricity supply and other information from the District Magistrates.”
The CM has further directed all the district magistrates to keep people safe from areas affected by heavy rains and landslides.
He further instructed the officials to keep all officers in alert mode at all times and enquired about the condition of water logging while issuing directions for better drainage arrangements.
He also instructed Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman to keep a constant watch on the condition of heavy rains in every district.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Thursday for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next three days.
According to the IMD, Uttarakhand is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall from September 12 to 14, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas. Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive heavy rainfall during this period. (ANI)
