Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], September 19 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured all possible steps to ensure quick relief and rescue operations in affected areas of Odisha’s Balasore district.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that the government is fully prepared and taking all necessary measures to control floods in the swollen Subarnarekha River.
“Several parts of Balasore district remain marooned following flood triggered by heavy rainfall in the past couple of days. All possible steps are being taken to ensure quick relief and rescue operations in the affected areas…The state government is fully prepared and taking all necessary steps to control floods in the swollen Subarnarekha River,” Odisha CM Majhi said.
He has also directed the authorities in the Water Resources department to prepare a roadmap for permanent remediation of the emerging flood situation.
On Wednesday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the flood situation in Balasore district with senior State and district officials.
The CM stated that all possible steps are being taken to ensure quick relief and rescue operations are underway in affected areas.
The Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X, “The state government is fully prepared and taking all necessary steps to control flood in the swollen Subarnarekha river. The authorities in Water Resources department have been directed to prepare a roadmap for permanent remediation of the emerging flood situation.”
Odisha CM Majhi conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas on Wednesday.
Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, Manorama Mohanty, on Saturday, said, “Yesterday’s depression has intensified into a deep depression and is currently located over Bangladesh and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and maintain its intensity today before weakening over the next 48 hours. The state is expected to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next two days. In the next 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall is expected across most districts in North and South Odisha. Isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall are expected in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore districts. Fishermen are advised to avoid entering the sea until September 16.”
She further added that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in isolated places in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Angul, and Dhenkanal districts. (ANI)
